How do I know if I was exposed?
You generally need to be in close contact with a sick person to get infected. Close contact includes:
- Living in the same household as a sick person with COVID-19
- Caring for a sick person with COVID-19
- Being in direct contact with secretions from a sick person with COVID-19 (e.g., being coughed on, kissing, sharing utensils, etc.)
- Being in close contact with someone who is a case. Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet for a total of at least 15 minutes within 24 hours (either consecutive or cumulative). However, this depends on the exposure level and setting. The final decision on what constitutes close contact is made at the discretion of public health.
- Anyone within 6 feet of an individual with confirmed COVID-19 for 15 minutes or more is required to self-quarantine, regardless of whether or not masks were worn at the time of the exposure.
Self-Quarantine Guidelines
- Quarantine begins the last day you were in contact with a COVID-19 case, (Day 0). During quarantine, do not go to work or school.
Quarantine End
- After day 10 without testing if you do not have symptoms.
- After day 7 if you do not have symptoms and if you test negative by PCR or antigen test after day 5.
Self- Monitoring
- Monitor yourself for COVID-19 symptoms through day 14.
- If you develop any of the symptoms below within the 14 days of the last contact with a person with COVID-19, you may have COVID-19.
- Cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell, fever, chills, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, headache, myalgia, or fatigue.

Quarantine Protocols
- If a student feels well and has no symptoms, he or she may fully participate in school.
- If a student has symptoms, he or she must stay home. A student may return with a doctor's note, and when they are symptom-free for 24 hours. We encourage families to speak to their doctor about COVID testing.
- If a student is awaiting test results, he or she must quarantine until they receive a negative COVID test result (the exception is in the case of significant exposure).
- If a student receives a positive test result, he or she must quarantine for ten days. A student may only return to school after being symptom-free for 24 hours after the ten days.
- If a student has had significant exposure to someone who tests positive for COVID-19 (was within six feet for 15 minutes or more without a mask on), he or she must quarantine for 14 days. Even a negative test result in this scenario does not allow a student to return earlier.
